Overview:
The three terms in the exhibition title—“Things,” “ Mind,” and “Becoming” — do not refer to three separate concepts. Rather, they describe a continuous creative process that moves from seeing and sensing toward the formation of an artwork.
“Things” refers to the realities that artists encounter: nature, space, and the tangible presences found in everyday life. “Mind” describes the inner state that emerges as these realities enter consciousness and become intertwined with personal experience, memory, and imagination. “Becoming” refers to the process of transformation and emergence through which what exists in reality is reshaped by individual perception and ultimately takes form as an artwork.
Through the works of wood sculptor KAKA and Nihonga artist Wang Wei, the exhibition explores the relationship between the vitality of nature and inner landscapes of memory and emotion, considering how existence and memory come to take form.
KAKA brings together close observation of nature and an unrestrained imagination, giving sculptural form to lives that inhabit the space between reality and illusion. In her representative Mushroom Bird series, mushrooms and birds are merged into hybrid forms, offering a fable-like reflection on biological transformation and evolution.
WANG WEI explores the theme of “inner time,” using mineral pigments to give visual form to accumulated layers of memory and emotion. By introducing unfamiliar presences and multiple perspectives into everyday spaces, she constructs quiet, contemplative worlds in which reality and memory intersect.
